431 Glinne Rock PTARMIGAN (2) 1931 all but exterminated them near by. However, I hear that there are still a few on Ballyho Mt. or Omaakrak S., and a hunter is reputed to have killed a dozen over west at Roos Bay a short time ago. Ptarmigan don't seem to stand the encroachments of civilization or foxes very well. Nothing on the ground, their home life is always in danger, and being a delicious table bird their existence is always one of persecution. Sept. 19 Spec. 2165 - came from a shoulder of the west mountain at the Canyon back of Duck Lagoon at Summers Bay. It was alone, & so far, is the only one I have seen. Oct. 14 Akutan Bay, Akutan Is. K. Aleutains. Specimen 2261 was taken on the top of the rocky peak just back of the whaling Station.
