420 Gilmae 1931 Rock PTARMIGAN (1) Lagopus rupestris May 24. Solyri Harbor, Solgri D., Alaska Three birds seen - one single, prob. ♂ + 1 pair. Pair collected. B did the watching & ♂ hid. Found on top of ridges on open ground. May 31. Unalaska. Unalaska D., Alaska None seen. The sailors killed two. Wouldn't turn 'em over to me 'cause "spoiled" them for eating. Probably much hunted by men & dogs & Consequently scarce. Nobody observes any game laws around here. Sailors kill anything, anytime. Aug 25. Cape Thompson, Arctic Ocean, Alaska In a couple of hours hiking thru in the hills back of the cape I saw but one which became Spec. No. 1977. No field notes when it flew up. Sept 18.
