428 Gilmore Duck Hawk (3) 1931 at close range several times. Oct. 14 Akutan Bay, Akutan Is. W. Aleutians I saw a Duck Hawk today at a distance just out of gunshot range as it playfully made some passes at three Ravens, and a little later it threw consternation into a flock of Rosy Finches. Both demonstrations took place about 200 ft below the crest of the rocky ridge back of the whaling station. Oct. 24. Akun Strait, E. Aleutian Is. Today I had a good view of several Duck Hawks hunting over the waters of the pass. One flew almost within range while we were "rounding up" a flock of Harlequin Ducks and the other was striking at ducks flying low over the water. Twice I saw the latter hawk strike. The first time the object was a lone Scoter who dove into the water from a height of 5 to 6 feet without hesitation. The second time the plunge of
