YELLOW BILLED LOON (2)
(1931) walk down to Cape Thompson &
back I saw 7 or 8. There was one
group of four that were feeding
about 300 yds off shore.
Aug 23 - Saw some occasionally as
I visited the Shore - always out
of range - sometimes singles &
doubles. Said by Bob Tuckfield,
native informant, to be common
around Marpitt Inlet. April 1974
was brought to the boat by Charles
Brower at Pt. Barrow. It had
already been shorn.
Eschscholtz Bay Kotzebue S't Alaska
Aug. 27 Saw several of these large
loons as we went mid Elephant
Point in motor launch. They were
too far away to see the color of
the bill, but were unmistakably
the large type.
From notes of Commander E.D. Jones, Captain
of cutter "Northland"
Oct. 15, 1931 - "big loon seen on way to
Cape Prince of Wales.
