Gilmore 1931 WHITE WINGED SCOTAR O Melanitta deglandi Carter May 16 - Carter Bay, Fm layon Channel. B.C. Several flocks of 8-12 in number took flying as we anchored in drizzle of rain. Oct. 3 English Bay, E. Alaska Is., E. Aleutians. There were 25-50 of these coots in the bay that they were quite wary. Conspicuous due to the large size, black body & white wing patch on the secondaries. Oct. 8 Akutan Bay, Akutans Is., E. Aleutians Several flocks of a dozen or so were seen in the bay today. Quite wary. Oct. 21 Akutan Bay. Spec. 2291-92 were donated by a native who killed them from a cloy powered by an outboard motor. He says they are fine eating & hard to kill. He refused $50 for the pair in the flesh but gave the skins gratis for the same price. Oct. 24 Akin Straits, E. Aleutian Is. While hunting in the straits today
