403 Gilmore Old Squaw (3) 1931 Aug 23. These birds were not common along the sea shore but seemed to prefer the lagoons inland. Sept. 25 Unalaska, Unalaska Is., Aleutians A. Olsen informs me that these ducks are found in appreciable numbers on the south side of the island in winter. He imitated their peculiar call note which was unmistakably that of an Old Squaw. Oct. 3 English Bay, N. Unalaska Is., W. Aleutian Is.. According to the nature with whom I am staying, and Capt. A. Swanson, these ducks are very much more common in the winter than at other seasons. Oct. 24, Norton Sound Straits, E. Aleutians Today in a bay on the Akim Is. side I saw several flocks of male birds. Each flock had about a dozen to fifteen.
