395. Gilmae HARLEQUIN DUCK (2) 1931 beach between town & Summer's Bay. They hang out in sheltered places among large surf beaten boulders. Their first inclination, when bent on wedge, seems to be diving. Shot two but an outgoing tide carried them offshore. Sept. 22 Unalaska. I saw several dozen of these birds today during my walk to camp from Summer's Bay. However, they kept off shore because the surf was quite rough & there was no shelter in among the rocks. Sept. 15 Unalaska. I saw several dozens of these ducks in small flocks while cruising about the N.W. part of the bay. The great majority seemed to be immatures. Noticed only 3 adult birds & and they huddled Together. They were invariably found Close to Shore, the rocky shore. Sept. 30 Unalaska. This late afternoon I surprised a flock of 15 or so on the rocks of the South & killed three. The Only obtained me for two drifted out. I just noticed three sitting on a rock at the edge of
