390 Gilmore GREEN WINGED TEAL (2) 1931 Oct. 4. Ayanigide Bay, N. Unalaska Is. There were 50-75 teal along the creeks of this bay as we hunted their lengths. They were quite wary and hung together in bunches but were easily stalked killed because one generally flushed them at close range. When wounded they swim under water in the creeks with power- full wing strokes & are adept at sliding under the stream banks. Often they remain motionless when in full view of the hunter, attempting to escape notice thereby. Oct. 23 Akutan Bay, Akutan Is., E. Allutions Today I found ducks inhabiting the hot spring of Hot Spring Valley, evidently preferring the warmth of the volcanic waters & the cold stream & supage lakes. A pair were surprised at the edge of a hot spring. For the space of 4-5 seconds before they becoming aware of my presence, they sat contentedly preening themselves.
