329 Gilmore 1931 HORNED GREBE Sept. 22 Unalaska, Unalaska Is., Aleutian Is. In Summer's Bay today I picked up an old battered carcass of an Horned Grebe I brought the head home + upon measuring it found that it was deeper than wide at the base. However, I have not seen any live birds as yet. Sept. 30 While cruising around in the bay in the recent rough weather, I have seen two grebes. One was close to shore + the other was feeding out about 100 yds. Both were very wary. Local people say that that the grebes are more in evidence during smooth weather. Oct. 3 English Bay, W. Unalaska Is., Aleutians Sec. No. 2214 was killed yesterday from the deck of the "Kamaga Native" just after we had anchored in the inner part of the bay. There were four others in the group of three. Oct. 25 Akutan Bay, Akutan Is., E. Aleutian Is. I have seen about 3-4 during my stay here. Generally they were close to shore and always alone. They were usually
