387 Silmors Pintail Suck D 1931 James & St. Michael, Alaska Quite common - pairs to 10 or 12 in flock. The flocks resided in a bunch of sloughs + lagoons that bordered the river + when flushed they wheeled overhead + settled down nearby. Point Hope (Igara), Alaska, Arctic Ocean. Angle. Four birds lit in a narrow shallow slough 1/2 mile N.E. of village. I startled them + from all appearances they seemed to be merely resting, then the bodies were of two were low in the grass + water. The other two were apparently on guard. (Specimens 1834-35) Aug. 9 These birds seem to hang out in some very shallow ponds a couple of miles N.W. Here in the grass and water they rest + feed. Quite a good proportion of young in the flocks. They are quite wary + generally the watchful guard leaps into the air + takes off while danger is still Several hundred yards away.
