Gilmae 1931 EMPEROR GOOSE D July 3, Sevonga, St. Lawrence Is., Bering Sea, Alaska So far a half dozen flocks have been seen along the shore between here and Gambell and invariably they were flying westward. Flocks numbered 6-40+. They are said to nest in great abundance around the Lake & salt lagoon at the narrow- 'est part of the island west & south of here. Saw a good many on trip to Dviktok back. Most (100 or 20) seen at Dviktok lagoon & inland. Nests were found on a low sandy island in the lagoon. They were set in a depression in the sandy soil & contained 5-6 white eggs suspect, lively. The clutch with 6 was ready to hatch, one being opened & the occupant already peeping. 16 hours later three were broken & the chicks out. The other nest had once been an Eider's (Pacific) for Two eider eggs (dark) were lying beside the 5 goose eggs. Such Nests are evidently appropriated
