Swim from a small island to a larger one at least 50 feet away. He was evidently forced to leave the smaller island on account of the rising tide so he struck out bravely and was across in less than 2 minutes. Shrews seemed to be fairly common and Mr. Stephens caught several. Peromyscus were rare only two were taken. One deer was seen. It rained every day of our stay so we did not see many species of birds. 23 Marbled Murrelet. One adult and 3 immature birds with white tips on the mandibles were shot. 40a. Pacific Kittiwake. 10 or a dozen birds of this species flew around near camp on several occasions. 60 Bonaparte Gull A flock of about 100 were seen and 2 secured on July 23. One bird was about half winter plumage already.
