night. 263 - Spotted Sandpipers were quite common along the rocky shores of the lake 297a- Sooty Grouse. Grouse were heard shooting in the woods, almost every day 302 Rock Ptarmigan. 5 birds of this species were observed on the top of a mountain at an elevation of 7600 or 1400 feet. 332 - Sharp-shinned Hawk. A & , nest and incomplete set of 2 eggs were taken on May 24. 337 b. Western Red-tail. A pair of redtails were evidently breeding near the head of one of the lakes as they were seen repeatedly in that locality and were loath to leave. 352 a Northern Bald Eagle - A single individual was seen. (364) 1 also. 393 c. Harris Woodpecker - These birds were fairly common about the lakes and their slow drumming could be heard quite often. Their drumming resembled
