4-20-29 Punica granatum l.p. 259 BM(C.P 533. Bud rose to Elba Beach. This is shrub commonly seen just putting out new reddish leaves on sq. twigs (thought at first to be Lagerstroemia indica see 4-10-29 entry) But petals scarlet not fringed or long clawed, ovary superior but adnate to calyx. 5 celled like pomegranate. Style not long. 4-17-29 Cuphea platycerca, low BM(C.P 538 flowered but not shed. leaves lanceolate to obov. lanceolate. pin long, sharply acuminate, narrowed to distinct petiole. Flo solitary. slender pedicelled calyx tube x in long slender, dark reddish spurred bright red but with darker ring around the white mouth. Petals none.
