3-13-29 Hibiscus mutabilis, L.

--- for Malvaceae.) 3-13-29 apex is
evidently the same differing only as
follows: lvs from 3in to 4 3/4 in broad, stump,
somewhat shorter. The radiating
veins, esp. the 5 central ones, very visible
above as well as below. If 3-5 lobed with
shallow sinuses, ireg crenate. Petals
sometimes but not always meet
blade at 1. Stary pubescence marked,
& the longer interspersal hairs are yellow.
Inflos peniculate, the lower branches
in axils lvs (now fallen). Bracts 2-3 in.
Capsule almost spherical 1/2 in high
by a trifle wider. Remains at base of
(2) bract involute? v (b) gamosepalous
cauld calyx. Seed 3 1/2 mm long, funiculus
remains attached to seed & can be
separated from it. Cot Each cell
7-12 seeded with sugar remains
& note maturing ovules.
Capsules loculicidally & deliquescent
the above
at the same time falling away
from a short central axis (about
1/3 length of capsule) so that they
remain attached only at base & often fall. 2-15-29 from same plants as
2-26-27 Fr. Calyx 1 1/4 in deep cut into
5 rve lobes 1 in deep, so 5 veined.
Bracts 1 involute 1/2 in long, linear.
No more than 3 seen in any case
