2-12-27 Red Malvaceae. Bermudiana. Indica. Shrub. To 4'x. Longibracteate. 5veined 3 1/2 x 3/4 in rule not entire. Fl. introduce? Thade (unclear text) (Calyx & Petals?) Calyx 1/2 anligge, 5 pointed veins. Petals 5, red, 1 3/4 in x 7/8 in flat sided, rounded apex broader at apex than at base with hole at one side as (unclear text) in Malvaceae Indica DC p.240 see 1-25-27 but not hole on left side (lacking from within), neural stamens column & style only slightly protuding. Stamens column spiraled, 5 theca lata apex. Style divides in 10 antr. Column be- comes redly sparingly pubescent. 4 mm long terminating in hairy trufte? Ovary 5 celled and perhaps only 1 ovule in each cell. Possibly ? a spec.? Malvaceae. Juice? mucilaginouse. Pollen? cells? & pollen grains spherical & spiny (26x and 84x) - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 2-7-27 Calendula officinalis L. p.408 ? 2-7-27 Borreria frutescens, DC. Saltmarsh Ox-eye. p.400. So shrub Prof near Port Royal. General effect ? B. frutescens but lvs almost linear 1/2 to 3 1/2 in x 1/4 to 1/2 in wide.
