throughout length, St. Louis #2, the largest. 19 x 4 mm. The 3 nerves light colored visible plainly to eye, the 2 lateral ones disappearing above the middle. Internode (in middle of upper part of St.) 4-6 cm long, hence much longer than the lvs. (Cata catba). But on young branches lvs are as long or longer than the +/-1cm internodes. Lvs slightly enlarged medges and near beneath edges incline to roll under; apex of lvs without any bristle tip. Infla rather narrow terminal panicle, many fld. Corolla white, 2mm on a side. Caries densely cored with fine white hairs, most 3 vessels are hooked at apex. Note: lvs not as broad as infl not as compact as all (Cata) This must be var. genuinum brewsterianum SW#II 322. 6-16-34 Galium palustre L. (See 5-5-34) FL. Boweret in marshes -> B. Plage. A. Sts very slender, 15-20cm high. Flds 2mm on a side. Largest fl. 9 x 1.5 mm. Sts only slightly roughened. B. Sts atouter, 45 cm high. FL 2-3 mm on a side. Largest fl. 14 x 2 mm. Sts def. rough to touch. Query whether A is var. typicum Deeks SW#II 321 and B is var lanceolatum Deeks SW#II 321, Both blooming together plentifully. A man tells R that these (indicating a tall plant) are used to flavour 'vin rouge'.
