8-30-34 whole has not the look of being strongly flattened laterally that is so characteristic of S. recta. Corolla of S. annua 17mm long. Calyx tube of S. drummondii (in fr.) 5 mm long (S. recta 4mm) and calyx of S. annua (in fr.) decidedly campanulate with teeth flaring out, while S. recta has stiffer, less graceful calyx and leathery erect teeth. = C. maxima Serp. Bon 337 7-1-34 Carex pendula Huds. Cratz I 519; Bon 308 579; SwI #226. Fr. Leslaurant on path down into gorge (-> Monteurex) shortly west of crossing the stream. Ident auzs. Perigynia 4 mm long (SwI) "aufgeblasene, Heidegrüne, glasglänzende". Basal leaf sheaths darkened. St. 5ft high, sharply triangular (esp. below); hedges very rough above. Ovipike one, 8-10cm long. 9-2-34 Composite Collected 8-17-34 per on Villeneuve Dump. General look of plant suggestive of Matricaria inodora when collected in very young bud. Flo had opened on 9-2-34. Plant perennial? for 1±1/2in high (only part had been kept freshly). Plant stiff throughout, but branched near the base (short handles not sticky starting on main st.). Plant gray-green with very few hairs but (20x) at low power papillose with tiny oval growths on adaxial very short stalk. Effect is rather as tho of small insects or eggs on st. also). Inf once a twice pinnate, lf segm. linear.
