Fl. Harris' Bk left bank bet F & P entering White's camp on gravel bar. Root stock about green w/ base of old petals green often branched into 2 or more at plants then arising from same root stock. Plant glabrous throughout except for occasional tufts of hairs on upper sides of lower axils of leaflets. Lvs dark green above, much lighter beneath. Vin earlier ones lightly tinged purple. No rate with broad sinus which is not evident to eye as basal lobes rolled in- ward. Latic ones are to 1½ x 1½ in acute, earlie ones smaller & sometimes definitely obtuse. Fls stand just above lvs. Fls large vin from tip of lower petal to tip of upper. Dark blue-purple center white w/ dark veins. Lower petal shorter than lateral ones, widely notched at tip with sides curling upward. Lateral petals instead of spreading from base is in V. oruculate has upper edges together for very short distance forming with lower petal a tubular effect with oblong anthers hidden. The 2 uper petals instead of spreading showing side nels to faces between usually overlap. (less. flora A.S.)
