Lycopus uniflorus Michx G 709, BvB III No 2 FL, adv. fl.
v stolone.
(n var.)
Carex paupercula Mielix, G 238, BvBI 417 Fl.
Ditch by R.R. shortly north of Island Port Station. Cpl
with C. linosa N (of 8-14-37). Same differences as
noted 7-20-37. In addition now noted:
C.l. stoloniferous not tufted C.p. tufted
C.p. sometimes with fl
at tip of spikes
Note also C.p.: female spikes show signs of bearing head tips,
a few off at base in some cases.
C.p. scales mostly fallen; none awned as in
ill (B.v.B.) but all tapered to subulate tips; a few
hardly longer than perigynia, others to 1/2 again as
long as perigynia.
[See 7-14-30 # 351 vs 352 which seem likely to have been the
same as spec of 7-20 v 8-19-37]
[9-11-37 ? C. paupercula (n var.) same locus as 7-20-37
Assumed when col. tube C.p. But perigynia are now
dark purplish brown. (Comparison with dead remains
of C. atrata L. varicata Booth shows shape & perigynia
different). In the 2 culms collected, terminal
spike has female tip and the other spikes seem all to
have had one or two male base.
