In general appearance E.a is the stouter stiffer more sedge-looking plant with larger more handsome buds. In E.a. its stiffleaves they dry tend to bend at about middle; in E.v. its less stiff (more like grass) v can be deflexed abruptly at base of blade. Ea has dark sheath invol. lvs and dark guidles atop [sheaths] upper & lvs (some lower ones too). (R.B.K is assuming that this accords with Go desc. & that BvB are misleading) E.v has no dark guidles but R.B.K suspects that fore- vious specimens with dark guidles on involute sheaths.
