Sheaths overlapping. Those of lower low on culm v of all los on sterile shoots pubescent (the lowest ones purplish), some unquestionably closed, others open as usual. Blades very narrow v involute, glabrous v shining outside; ridged v hairy inside. Spikelets and 1/2, bright green, somewhat glaucous, the tips yarrow some- times purplish. Lemmas 5 mm., slightly rough toward apex on back, terminating in sharp point or a awn 1-3 mm. Palea almost as long as lemma, minutely 2-toothed at apex, ciliate on keel v minutely pubescent on upper half of back. First glume 1-nerved; 2nd glume, 3-nerved. Lemmas (not prominently) 5-nerved. Sta- mens 3. Plants from creeping root-stock. Seems not to be F. rubra or any var. of Fovina. See G 161, BvBI 269. F. rubra L. G 161, BvBI 270
