8-19-39 Achene very dark brown, shining, almost smooth. 8-19-39 ? Vaccinium No fl or fr. Rk to smooth( ) Butter Bl beyond James Gale's place. Shrub (prob about 2 ft.) with general look of V. Twig green waxy or pinkish tinged puberulent in lines from bases of petioles. Inv alt thick stiff upright, 1+ x ½ in, ovate oval rounded at apex with pronounced blunt v broad red mucron, rounded at base; irreg serrate with low teeth rounded on back with sharp gland tipped point. Dark green shining conspicuously reticulate veined above, smooth except minute puberulence on mid-rib. Somewhat lighter, shining entirely smooth beneath. Pond prob fresh being near where we took water for luncheon. St. 4 to ½ in long, very slender, somewhat branched. From nodes about 3/8 in apart, arise whorls of 6-8 similar filiform branches (to ¼ in long) which seem in turn ready to bear whorls at nodes (none of these secondary nodes where developed beyond microscopic (20x thin projections).
