8-11-29 early stage but when young has soft sparse pubescence. Under side, when young, densely white, oily-wooly; in older, wo. wooliness gone leaving sur- face grayish pubescent & veiny. Petioles about 1/4 in. Perhaps S. candida Flupge G327, AUBI598. But con- sider S. viminalis L., v S. pellita Anders. v S. humilis Marsh. (C) 8-11-29 Salix No flowers. Fle P. Cabin v below. St. like (B) but less brownish; shorter than (B) & the upper parts densely white tomentosae. Stipules semi-circular v strongly em- care outward. Lvs oblong to 31/2 x 11/4 in; the uppers are veiny v strongly rugose, flocculent wooly both sides. Upper side dark green, under side grayish green, very low toothed. Apex acute, base truncate or semi-cordate. The lower (older) lvs. glabrous or almost so and not puckery rugose like those above. Margins fall too with very few teeth v slightly inclined to be revolute. Lower lvs nar- rowed to base. Petioles 1/4 in. If (B) is not S. Candida perhaps this is, in spite of diff. in shape & from all g. and B v B. [Date] 8-19-29 This agrees better with Gidesc. "a lowry shrub".
