Panicle not "purple" but white, the glumes being bright white with green nerves. Awns not hooked as far as observed. 7-27-29 Festuca Early fl. Dry poor soil, upper part of field at mouth of Trout Rk. Culms 4-9½ in slender wiry looking naked, as the few lvs. are on lower part with involute blades less than ½ in long. Panicles ½ -¾ in long, purplish & more or less glaucous. Culms purplish above. Basal lvs. none longer than 5½ in & often much less. Spikelet usually 7-8mm long in- cluding awns (longest 10mm). Lemma 5-7mm in- cluding the 1-2mm awn.
