tions the striking effect of flower buds which have yellow
hairy at edges. Upper surface this green.

Nutt 52. St with strong, broad-based downward curd
spines thorns, otherwise glabrous var width 1 ft to ?,
narrowed at base & often at apex, dark green glaber
above, lighter beneath & with stalked, red, sweet-
scented glands as are also the doubly serrate edges.
Upper stipules & bracts broad. Pedicels glabrous.
Sepals three outer sepala glandular on edges (not
on back) & with long narrow appendages (varies)
elongated, glabrous. Petals white with redaceous faint
stripes & points. Styles free & glabrous. Fls solitary
or in corymbs. Sepals reflexed after flowering.

(see 6-3-32) Fl v fr. Puig dero near top white path descends
toward place where found 6-10-32. Fr 4 x 2 7/8 mm
on stalk 3 mm.
