11-30-30 Thistle-like plant, Cas Catola Hage near mouth. Quite dead (so evidently not a perennial?) Taproot slender, 5T to 6in, more slender than usually in this group of plants, white woolly (at least above). Low primate to mid-rib in narrow spiny segments, low from some distance below infl. very narrowly decurrent on st. Needs terminate short branches towards top of plant, one on each branch with re- duced or more less torty base. Needs (without corollas) 1/2-5/2 in high and (including spiny Tips of involucracts) 1in wide. Involbracts in several rows, tapered into long slender tips. Receptacle thickly covered with crinkly white chaff. undeveloped achenes but papery. ? 1 series of hairs enlarged at base and glumode with very fine rather short hairs. Papery attached to base of a short (1/2 mm) colic or ring which seems to come from tip of achene entire, Calthites torren- trosa Moench. Coll again 12-13-30. Pd Muranes.
