silky (hairs obscurely dentate but not "bifurcata"

plumy hairs united in groups at base. Scales receptacle
(semi-) tubular at base & lacistrate above & multiple shining
signs of involucre towards top bearing 2 flowerheads (1
terminal, 1 just below). Involucre spiny, the young
ones at base & at white-woolly; the few remaining at
the top & at somewhat auriculate clasping. Hairs on achenes
usually silvery but also signs of having been yellow.
