Stem rough (almost encrusted) with starry hairs
Lvs, calyx etc all starry haired. Flo more than 1
in axils v buds just before opening strongly re-
flexed. Stamen tube hairy at top but not in de-
finite little bases (B), the 3 bracts unquestionably
united. Lvs differ from (B) in being more deeply
5-lobed (outline a little like maple lfs). Flo petioles
lavender with darker veins, much lighter than (B)

3-7-30 Malva sylvestris L. Kn II 179, Bas 76, Box 55-
BUT. 95 (note lvs are rounder & more shallowly 7-lobed
than ill #197) Collected by Mrs. Hillier near San
Rapina. Hairs on ato lvs tho often starry-leprous-
nally on lvs) are longer, looser, fewer & softer (impart-
ing no encrusted look or feel). Corolla 1/2 in diam,
petals purple with deeper colored stripes. Bracts
invol not united as (A) tho sometimes one or
more edges slightly united

Lower flo are extraaxillary and sepals grow larger
as seeds mature. Note bracts are not narrow at base
& might almost be considered sub-cordate. Style,
