P. DeBenedictis 1965 20 June Barrow, Alaska The lead we could see lines of ducks, all before York flying to the East. Most appeared to be Oldsquaws from the way they flew but some were clearly Eider or Brant; a number of species were seen inland where they could be identified. Found Gary Benetings carrying pest material and heard which had and long spur display; Aerial display of all shorebirds except Brant ? and Red Phalarope, and saw attempted cop. of Twege and Dunlin. Spent the evening writing Notes. Saw my 1st Least Weasel today! 21 June Weather as yesterday but over 40 for the 1st time this June, and the wind wild much of the day. Snow morning and evening. Stayed around AHC in the AM working on hemmings; went out about ½ hours behind the Animal Flut before noon; activity not much but lots of song of longspur, Snow Bunting and Baird's Sandpiper, and a Semipal. Three new in. After kennel Bob Hamilton and I went to the area between M. And S. Salt hoggos where we have been before. It was shocking! The off shore waterfowl migration was all but nil and almost all the shorebirds were gone. except Semipal. Sandpiper; the only reason we got so many turnstones is that a flock of 8 flew by while we were there and we were barely able to find a dunlin! Saw aerial display of Golden Plover (1), Pectoral (2), Semipal & Dunlin and most passerines
