P. DeBenedictis 1965 19 June Barrow, Alaska Broke up and a few sized group of gulls was present. Most of the Dunlin in the area had disappeared but we followed Dr. Pitelka, who was in a collecting wood and may have had something to do with this. Saw all the regular, except Baird's Sandp. and display of all but Red Phalarope. No groups of jaeges. In addition to the birds listed we heard 3-4 groups of ? Oldsquaw flying SW way above the cloud layers. Spent the evening writing notes. Saw a loon giving calls; chicken like clicking noises flying N one ARL about 10 PM but it was too far away to identify. 20 June Spent the A.M. in ARL as the wind has gone back to the E and it was snowing in the morning; About 1:30 pm went back to the VOTH area with Hamilton, more to watch birds than to record anything - it proved to be a nice day, as the wind had dropped, then came up about 7 and died down again. We covered about the same area as yesterday and there were notable changes; hummingbirds were less in evidence and Jaegers were so. There were almost no White-crowned present and more Turnstones, Plowers and Phalaropes; the outstanding feature of the day however was the offshore water- bowl flight: almost everytime we looked out any
