P. DeBeaul 1965 12 June Barrow, Alaska The morning around the ARH with Bob Hamilton; there was little activity even though the Tundra lice noticeably emerged; Further, after noon Dr. P. Hellea gave Bob and I a lift to the Beaul Ridge and we walked along it to Family Lagoon and then around to the Usik area to the west side of Family Lagoon and back to ARH. The Usik Area was very much free of snows and there were good #s of jaegers and shorebirds here and along the west side of Family Lagoon. We saw a gull harrumming and little Owl activity but jaegers & gulls doing a good job. Birds didn't appear to be communing in at all. Got back about 6:30 and quit evening writing notes discussing the feeding dates we are (setting). In addition to the birds listed I thought I saw a Bluethroat at the NW corte of Family Lagoon but couldn't get adjacent looked at it. Elsewhere—the jaegers were evenly and openly distributed and we saw only 6 shorebirds on the Beach Ridge. 13 June— Didn't get out until about 11 and walked into the Beaul area c. ¼ mile behind the arrival lot. There is more vegetation appearing and the Tundra and quite a bit of water under its snows. There were Baird's sandpipers in the area for the 12
