18 August Meacle River Coal Mine, 15°25'W, 20°27'N, has
Dunlin, which was feeding actively like
semipals, pecking a jabber's [illegible]
at the water's edge. One teen fisher being
along the river. Four Parasitic Jaegers
flew over. On the way back saw 2
Pectorals and a dunlin at the mouth
of village creek. A large group of gulls,
which spent most of the day on the mire
just opposite the coal mine. They kept
pursuing over the wildebeest as if they
were getting something to eat them,
but I never saw a copeter. When
they strayed from the area, a pair of
Parasitic jaegers would attack this
violently, and at least once grounded
a gull temporarily. Later in the day
the jaeger roosted at the edge of the
gull flock. In the evening Art and
I went tramping across the river to
[illegible], [illegible] (N) to the 72
Houret area. Saw 2 pectorals in
the marsh across the river, and
heard a dunlin across the river. We
had a neat nice sunset again for a
change, but it really getting dark
now. Got weather data from Phil
Johnson.
