17 August Meade River Coal Mine, 157°22'5"W, 70°27'N, Aleck
Check the birds around Lake Agassiz, to see
what has moved out due to weather. In
a wind - most every thing. All of the birds
were in the tail areas would, out of the
wind the pectorals being farther towards
shore than phalaropes. In all, I saw
5 Pectora (1, 3, 17) and 3 min.
Red Phalaropes around the lake, plus 5
Pintails (one cwm 3?) and 2 Arctic Terns
on the lake. The nesting Parasitic Jaegers
are gone, but I still haven't seen any
young. No dourites. There was still
a pectoral by the CQ wamnigan. Spent
the evening talking with Phil.
18 August - Went down along the village front area
to try and photograph some birds. It was
a failure from the start because Guy-
Shepherd's dog, Duke, decided it would
be fun to follow us. Besides there were
not any birds to photograph. I walked
along the river and went in by the
Sweecl lakes but saw nothing unusual
except 2 longspurs. There were a couple
of Savannah Sparrows in the willows
along the River, and half a dozen
longspurs & 1 Wagtail. Along the River on
the mud I saw 1 longspur + 2 min.
