P. DeBenedicti 1966 Journal 5 August. Meede River Coal Mine 15702540, 70329'N. Black pools on the way; a golden plover on the Eriophorum flat, and a minor ant Petrocel on the edge of the stabilized dam. One oldquail seen. lots of gulls in the air. a & Cairn was swimming across Ikwak- valk. There were a few longspurs along the lake, mostly singer, weed along in the pasturage wall, but most were by the village, where they are in loose group of 2 dozen+ birds. All in winter plumage. No other landbirds were noted. It's very windy and cold, so spent the evening scraping meat off the horn spurs. 6 August Strong winds all day long. Didn't try to get out much except close to camp. No noticeable bird activity. Collect Artemisia from near the Coal Mine. Hope it gets nice soon. 7 August. Gave up hope of this wound ending, but didn't try to do much binding. I walked most of the lower part of the village creek. There were 1-2 Waytase and 3-5 longspurs but no shorebirds in the area. There are some odd aquatic plants growing in the stream, which I haven't seen anywhere else. The hope Agassiz Water seemed to be empty. Just poked about camp in the evening. Saw one Savannah Sparrow by the creek, so they are still here.
