3 August Moose River Coal Min, 157°25'W, 70°27'N, Alaska
Flowers, now only in the snow drift areas
and late flowering Composites. The A.M.
speed getting settled in camp, then
Niko Verbeek and I went to the snow
cover. There was little bird activity. We
sleeked 2-3 Pectoral in the polygonized
areas and a Sennipal, and I found a
Phoeurope. Saw a Black-belly Plover
attack a Jaeger. Jaegers are scarce but
several geese about. Not as much longspur
activity as before. Nocturne in the River,
which is does now, and will in the willows.
Formed several new flowers. Still no microtine
activity. Walked back in along the stream.
In general, the flower season past and
everything is setting seed. Not many mosquitoes.
Didn't get out in the evening. Ait McTee brought
a Yellow-billed Loon in from the village, which I
will prepare for mariono. on the plot habitat 30-31 July.
4 August
Spent the A.M. Fixing the lion. It was tough.
In the afternoon went down to the North dune;
flanks of longspurs, mostly in winter plumage,
by the village and a few waytail by the river.
Didn't see any sparrows. 38+ Caiman here in the
A.M., across the river. The stabilized dunes area
buddlers, beet a few longspurs and a Golden Plover
in the polygonized areas in such Nocturne by the
