11 July Meacle River Coal Mine, 15225'W,70937'N, Black
Head Western Sweep. per. Not so many Semipal
on the Crucicularea area as usual, but still kept
a dozen or so. The Black-bellies still in breeding.
A few & pectoralis in the nearby area along the
edge of the lake but not yet in the hollow Cave.
The Phalaropes were conspicuous in these
areas. The Parasitic Jaegers now have chicks,
and both dive at and give the distraction light.
Ray eventually found the chicks, which I didn't
see. I went up to Soot Ridge. As I came out
of the polygonal-like area, I noticed a Western
albatross nest. It began to rain and so I
went in and sat on 8 chicks, which I cocked.
Semipal and golden plover in the area.
Soot: I find 10 6-7. Jaeger's nest. Went back
through the census plot. A lot of shore bird
activity near the Sitzes, including Plover,
Turnstone and Areniboles, but I hadn't the
time to search for chicks. The turnstone followed
me to the 1,2 marker, scolding all the way.
Seven wagtails (Spring) soldier near this
mine. In the evening went back to photograph the
Black-billy nest. Plus the Pannizan not flushed
a 7 from about 7 chicks, of which I took one.
There 3 N. Phalarope that acted like I had
chicks in L. Agassiz near here. Couldn't find
Western's again. Went onto Luscombe plot
