9 July Miracle River Coal Mine, 157°25'W, 70°37'N, Alaska
Scattered all over the plot (and no juveniles
seem to be about). Only the 3-egg nest is still
active. There don't seem to be many active longspurs
on the plot. The Plover nest st.t1/ watchful (COAM)
and the 7 on, giving a good distraction display.
A & just coming bag and calling. A pair of
Semipals and a Columbin apparently with
chicks were in the wet Eriophorum
flats W of the Cannibalina area, and a 4
pectoral was feeding in the Carr pool here.
The only other Semipal seen were in the
Carr pool area (1) and by the nest of 5,5 in
the Eriophorum; this nest produced only 2 young.
The long tail Seeger near the plot again.
A 7 pectoral was alarmed near the 5,2 nest
and here I found 1 chick, which I collected.
The 4 only occasionally gave distraction display;
she frequently came very close to me while
calls a "wik wik" call and often feeds. Most
of these activities the chicks were in an pool filled
with Sphagnum and violently grown over by
Eriophorum. In the afternoon I went over to
the village and its village feats to see what
was there, taking advantage of the lack of
mosquitoes. There was only a pair of Semipals
acting alarmed. Saw 1/2 fledgling Wagtail by
