P. De Benedicki 1966 Journal 5 July Meelee River Coel Muio, 157025'W, 70024'N, Blush were feeding along the river and just inland of its willows, but most seemed to be involved in closes. Two birds were taken on a Conicularia over going to Eriophorus, where they did not seem to be feeding. I saw none feeding along ponds, although birds were in its area; the tall grass made them difficult to see. Birds were then again concentrated along the 2nd emerged beach, which is also predominantly Conicularia flat, and were seen feeding on this, and working into the smaller pools censured there; they did not appear to get out in the calm water. A few Red Phalarope flying over, but only 4-6 seen on the water. One shot got away, so I only hit it again in the legs, and this shot together included a 9 that was just on her 2nd egg - but which may have been an easier clutch. No flocks of reds, but a group of 5-7 Widgeons. Flushed 29 peetrot, which flew away together in a wet lake flat, Carey area, and eventually shot 20ths, 7s. Only 1a 28's in Op area. and no song. Two pairs of Black Belli in the 2nd Conicularia beach area, and got distraction display for both; No golden's here at all. One dunlin in the area, but it didn't do much except hold. One fly off. Found a Spectacled Eider's nest with 4 eggs while closing a Phalarope, and saw a Black Parasitic Jaeger sit on a nest at the end of the
