14 June Meade River Coal Mine, 157 25' W, 70°29'N, Alaska.
Very much nicer today. Slept late and didn't get off until
10:30. No song on the center plot, which occupied
most of this day, but a profitable day. I walked
along the river and then along the new area and
zig-zagged through the rest of the plot. Longspur,
very inconspicuous and well speeded. Suspect
many unattached males are present and still
can't find nest thought 2 % are definitely
present. 6 eggs in the one nest. I found two
Semipal nests, each with 4 eggs, and a Golden
Plover nest with 4 eggs, and saw a suspicious
acting aludelin. At least 28 pentalas on the
plot, possibly 3, and 27s, one of which's nest
was being predated by a h-t. Tawgs, are here.
Found a phalarope nest just off the plot deck
it's still associated. Saw the Bandeel & Waytail
again. Steve and I went back later to try and
get her and to mark a Phainigra nest -
found another 4-egg Semipal nest, and saw the
Phainigra, which really sits tight. Found its
Waytail but couldn't get really close to her to get
her. The band is new. The h-t. Tawgs still looking
for nests, so things will be tight.' Saw a chase of
2 Semipal and a pectoral, and 2 White-crowned,
one singing along the fteff while we were looking.
2 Redpolls flew over during the day. The place getting
much drier and I really would like to know what's happened
