P. DeBenedictis 196 Journal 17 June Mccle River Coal Mine. 15?025'40, 70?29'N. Alaska White-footed geese attached to this area and Pintails nesting. A ? Redpoll in the willows. In the Tuck I was gone the flowers really have started to come out. I have now seen Pedicularis, Ranunculus nivalis, Anemone paviflora, Arctostaphylos, and Potentilla. lots 1 strange leaves poking up. 18 June Got up late and spent the A.M. writing notes. We (Steve and I) then went back around the census plot with Steve to extend the markers al. Hl., and add a fifth row so that is in now 400 x 400 meters. There was very little activity, only Red Phalaropes, and a few S longspurs. Walked in along the shore of lake Agassiz but didn't see much. It was overcast and rather windy the afternoon and Steve and I slept a lot. About 4 we set off to get some feeding observations, I going to the village feet area. I saw almost no birds due except longspurs, and all Phalaropes seen were flying over. Found two 5-egg longspur nests as usual under Eryngium trussocks on the edge of polygon tongues. The few birds I saw were down in the tall grass doing their best to get out of the wind. 4 r-t. Tovagras together, and the Parasitics and 6-Tails fighting at the village. Spent the evening around camp relaxing. Somehow, that Waytail nest camp is surviving all the Trompuy around it? goes on here. No new Hs except Rumes and Oxyric.
