17 June Meade River Coal Mine, 157°02'5"W, 70°29'N, Alaska
of Parasitic Jaeger came in from the N., and a pair of
long-tails let us get fairly close near the village.
from 4 to 6.30 we went around lake Agassiz.
Only a few Phalaropes were seen but considerable did
Phalarope activity on the far side in the pools. They
seem to be having trouble because they are obviously
looking for food but appear to be unable to find it.
This is the 1st time I noticed this. A ♂ Pintail
near where I found the nest and a ♀ Western
Sandpiper on the peninsula. Also 3 snazaring bird
the 5 corresponded and only loosely attached to
this area. A few perils as, Lows, Fliers, and
semi-palps along here and the Western Snipe,
from a ridge area as before. The jaegers put on
a good show near the nest. One pair of Terns,
Eiders in the lake and also a ♀ of Scamp; a
Herring gull flew over. Sabine (3) and Glauces
(1) gulls S.Ting. We'll have to go out to the nest
sometimes. In the evening went to the
far side of the Meade opposite North dunes.
Three Semi-palps very showy and Pictoral
conspicuous, mostly along the Cams pools. Heard
song but Steere found a 4-egg nest. A Gullin and
Black Plower, and two low-tider seen. Archie
looms calling from the Large Lake, and a Pair of
Wagtails abroad. The area due is much better than
I had expected and lots of wildlife in its area
