P. De Benedicts 1966 Journal 16 June Meade River Coal Mine, 157°25'W, 70°25'N., Alaska. There were several pairs of King Eider in the S part of L. Agassiz and several Sabine Gulls obviously settling on nests, and Arctic Terns interested. Two pairs of glaucoous gulls. Spent the evening on the same plot but it was pretty frustrating - no longspur activity to speak of and little shorebird. Heard a Western. A warbler very concerned about the area where I landed & was, but couldn't get much from it. Only one & longspur seen, as last time. Whimbrel still by the coal mine and curlew singing from the far side of the river at South Creek. On the whole a pleasant but quiet evening. 17 June Went to the village flats area with Steve. Very quiet. A Redpoll was flying over and landed near the village, and no semipal activity to mention. A pair of turnstones due. On the flats little activity at the South end - mostly semipals, and more beyond the big pool in the middle - mostly Pectorals and semipals around the marshy areas. A few phalaropes and two lone & dowitchers. We went up to the ridge and along Lake Itkulawake to the ridge going into camp, but little here - an occasional phalarope and a few pectorals. A St. dowitcher singing, and at least one dunlin, which has begun its molt of its primaries. A western singing here. Many of the birds in this area seem to have moved out and Ptarmigan are less conspicuous now. A pair
