P. De Benedick 1966 Journal - 32 9 June Meade River Coal Mine, 157°25'W, 70°29'N. Atruba both phaopos in the ponds. The Cailis convert about dendulin in the upland, pectorals + [illegible] , cutes, maneber, and Eurydops in disturbed areas still seem to hold. But the latter have quit eating spring tail (? all gone? time of day). In the evening went out to the census plot. It was clear with occ. fog patches, but windy and everything was quiet. Don't think I have all the longspurs. Few jaegers and shorebirds on the ground. About 80 migration started that (coated about 1/2 hrs), primarily Red Phalaropes and oldsquaws. Groups of 1 to 8 of the, former and 2 to 6 of the latter were going south over the area regularly and several small group of Sabine Gulls and Arctic Terns went over,; plus 3 of Spectacled Eiders. Mixed with the phalaropes were a few Riddell's Phalaropes, pectoral sandpipers (which occ. landed a white) and at least 1 Golden Plover and one dendulin. Considerable dendulin activity in the census plot. On this way in I jumped a 4 longspur that certainly was a nest but I couldn't find it. Out 7 to 10:30. P.M. 10 June Slept late. In the morning went out to the village to check for dicking birds but nothing unusual there. Most of the jaegers have left and there were 5 Sabine gulls behind the village with 3 Long-tail, which I watched for a while. Saw a well aggressive behavior. Probably 2 or 3 Wastail tree.
