P. De Benedicki 1966 Journal - 14 30 May Meade River Coal Mine, 157°25'W, 70°24'N, Alaska. In the dense. The golden plovers are singing and I thought I heard a scree and a spectral song. On the way back a dark-phased Parasitic Jaeger flew directly over me, and I heard a Pipit and a Wagtail flying. A Sing L.B. Dowitcher flew over and 2 others also later came by, going towards camp. The ditch by the village had 3 Golden Plovers and 2 Turnstones by it when I got back, and Semipalmated Sandpiper were singing, near here. Stuff is really coming in now! Got back in about 1 AM, so saw that I can barely walk now, both feet are blistered. 3 or 4 Dodo Itchies and 3-4 golden plovers plus 2 groups of 3-4 peep came through camp in the tate afternoon. Heard 2 Wagtails, saw a Parasitic Jaeger, and saw and heard a strange Sparrow, probably a tree sparrow. In the evening went out from 10 to 11:30 pm, SW along the Meade. I figured out my census plot is only a quarter the tize I thought it was. When I left, the Grouse were feeding actively and singing, although I was jumping some, but after 10:45 everything had gone to sleep. Jumped one sleeping Golden Plover and saw 7-8 birds "migrating" and also jumped 6 Semipalmated Sandpipers. Saw a group of ? Jaegers (?species) flying N and a few geese.
