14 May I am the proud owner of two right shoe-pacs - can't win them all! I saw 3 birds today - 2 Snow Buntings and a Glaucous Gull, and didn't get out of the lab area. It's getting colder. Mecole R. camp is being moved out on Monday and I am going Wednesday, I hope, with Phil Johnson. Got some gear together, and ordered stakes. No sense in rushing now. Brewer said 50% more snow than usual this winter and the river may flood. How cycling. No one has seen a lemming. How wonderful!!! All is going well. Am trying to get a mental picture of the arctic flora - which won't be to land, I can see, from several Illustrated books. Cooking hasn't changed but the rest of the lab area seems cleaner than last year. Quiet with Moose yet. I can see how the winter breeze would get to you!
15 May Stayed in camp. Saw 2 Snow Buntings. No much about. The Snow Buntings are singing a little when the sun comes out. Temp. 8°-20°, and almost constant but not strong wind. There really isn't much equipment left from last year, and almost no shells.
