P.DeBenedictis 1965 36 11 July Baumre, Alaska the large lake west of Throatik and were also seen in many of the smaller pools: A flock of Brent + 3 Grebes + a pair of gulls were seen; pintail were also seen, plus 2 female Eiders either King or Common. Longspurs were not numerous but well distributed and Tundra Buntings were almost nil. No odd balls and little evidence of flocking was obtained. Checked 2 semi-pool nests (1419) on the way out but no change. Took a number of photos Today (and yesterday). Perhaps the most impressive happening has been the formation of an ice ridge, in place about 20 feet high, on shore of Chincheki Sea, during the night; McClean said it not not there at 3 AM and was certainly present by 8:30. 12 July got up late and went out behind the lab to check all 6 Nests: 4 were empty, and single birds only were seen at each. Little of note about. In the afternoon Bob, Steve and I went to Central Marsh to set out lines II-VIII, this lasting most of the afternoon. The marsh has dried fairly considerably and there were few birds along the margin - nothing in Holmes's Marsh. Staked another jayeye nest and saw another sitting. We saw a line of 125 Common Spectacled Eiders on the way in and 2 groups of 40- 150 St. Kings on the way back. In the evening went to UOTI area to check nests: all sense except Alpines 2, which contained 4 freshly hatched young. McClean found a new dunlin nest with 3 young, 1 still
