P. D. Benedict 1965 7 July Barrow, Alaska of Semipals, 3 of Peatrails and 2 of Golden Flowers; One small flock of ducks going East appeared to be Oldsquaw. None of the nests had changed and found a egg Jaeger Nest marked by McClean with an old steak - put a new steak on it. The migrants greatly complicated clutch of pairs or at one time I had 6 semipals at one nest! In the afternoon I got a ride to the VOTH area and spent the rest of the PM checking nests. There were no changes in any nest except that 1 longspur banded, and I found 3 Semipal + 1 jaeger nest, plus a steak which someone else placed that marked an empty cup. There was considerable semipal activity in the area where the road crosses VOTH creek to the gas line and I heard a few dunlin displays; otherwise it was very quiet. The area has not changed much from the last time I was out here. Walked a transect of 11A-3 but few birds in the area. Things are really quiet except for the Semipals now. 8 July Stayed in late. It was clear except for a strong NE wind which really cooled things off (blew away the mosquitoes) and blew in a low fog in the mid afternoon, becoming high overcast in the evening. The entire day was very quiet, song-wise and the main bird activity seems to be a continuation of the foraging noted earlier. In the morning went with Dr. Pitelka to the VOTH area to get some longspurs and was fairly successful. Saw 4 dunlin together
