Barrow, Alaska
nest I found, and Puddy Terns along Elson hayon.
A few Wolfspool in pools here and I saw a line of 150
ducks that appeared to be Eiders and a group of 70
Kings. There were relatively fewer Lemmings in Holmes'
Marsh than elsewhere. Three same species seen along
Elson hayon were noted going back to the Beach
Ridge. I checked 4 jayge nests along here but all
had only 2 eggs; Oculs conspicuus along the hayon
Shore. The marsh seems to have reached something
of an equilibrium as there is little change in its
current water level now. The plover had thinned out somewhat
but the 3 Black Bellies still persist. This large group
of plovers and Dow Fels is still in the SW part of
the marsh and there were a few small groups in
the E + NE part. There are clearly fewer Pechials
around than July 3, and couldn't find the Purple
wrecks though still a few Westerns and a group of Semipals.
Got a ride in from here and spent the evening at the bar.
7 July
Got up early to go out and check nests behind the bar.
It was a bright sunny day, 54% overcast with a weak,
variably strong wind from the SE, and very pleasant,
but very quiet. In the morning the only song heard was
a Little Snow Bunting and 1 Semipal and 1 prob.
Baird's. I went out checking all the nests on the
way to AACs and then went to Ternnest on Lines IX + X,
and returned rapidly. I saw only single Baird's at
all the nests (not pairs of semipals at several and 3 group
