P. DeBenedictis 1965 3 July Barrow, Alaska Fair much song - no shelduck display at all. The nests were not checked, and the turnstone still seems to be present. There was a group of about 40 Dowitchers in VOTK slough. On the way in saw 3 L-T. together on the ground. In the evening went out with Hamilton to help take up trues IX + X; there were fewer pectorals visible here and not as much phalarope activity (due to the drying of its area?). A group of 10 Golden Plovers and 10 Dowitchers were along on of the remaining pools. The latter feeding out in the pools as casual. Spent the rest of the evening processing lemmings. Sawo jaeger perched on a oil drum between nests [illegible] 14th bird; 5. 4 July Slept until 10 and went with Dr. Pitelka towards the VOTK area about noon - unfortunately, we lost a track on the creased on the way out so I had to walk most of the way. It was my intention to check the Dowitchers around the VOTK area then go towards the Meadow lakes and in, which I eventually did. It was foggy all morning, almost calm, and cleared to overcast with occasional drizzle and slight SE wind in the early afternoon, almost sunny at times in the late afternoon. I went directly to the VOTK area, where I spent some time looking at Western Sandpipers and Dowitchers (both of which were doing very little) and found 2 jaeger nests here. On the way in I noticed considerable song of Semipalmated Sandpiper in the VOTK area but others
